Joanna Newsom, Bon Iver, St. Vincent to Play Bryce Dessner's MusicNOW Fest

The National's Bryce Dessner founded the MusicNOW Festival in 2006 to bring adventurous contemporary music to Cincinnati every spring. This year's festival, which goes down March 30-April 1, has some pretty big names attached.

Joanna Newsom doesn't have too many U.S. shows planned, but she'll come to Memorial Hall on March 30. The next night, St. Vincent will play, premiering new works, including a piece written specifically for the festival that will be performed by the ensemble Ymusic. And on April 1, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon will close the fest with a rare solo show.

St. Vincent - "Marrow"

Annie spared no instrumental part in corralling a sizable backing band to recreate the Disney-swirling, staccato-sax jagged beauty of "Marrow" in Letterman's studio. No one track does more to touch on all of St. Vincent's pulse points; that this blend of her muscular and vulnerable sides went down so smoothly in a live televised setting, though, is what strikes the hardest.
